It is with heavy hearts yet grateful spirits that we announce the peaceful passing of Betty Shinaberry on June 14, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on May 13, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, Betty left this world enveloped in the love of her family after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Betty was the cherished daughter of the late David McFadden and Florence (Pat) Hutchings McFadden. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings, Eileen Nieves and David McFadden, as well as her two devoted husbands, Robert Shinaberry and Bob Creech. Her daughter, Lisa Shinaberry, also preceded her in death, leaving a void that was tenderly filled by the love of her surviving children and extended family.
Betty's life was a testament to resilience, love, and grace. She married Robert Shinaberry on August 9, 1952, and together they shared 51 beautiful years, raising a remarkable family. Later in life, she found love again with Bob Creech, with whom she spent 13 cherished years.
A proud graduate of Western International High School in Detroit, Betty valued education deeply, embodying a lifelong love of learning that led her to pursue extension classes at Wayne State University later in life. Her keen intellect and curiosity were matched only by her creative spirit. Betty's skilled handiwork in various forms was nothing short of incredible, as she transformed hobbies into a testament to her artistry and dedication.
Betty was an active member of St. David's Episcopal Church for 56 years, where she found spiritual solace and community. Her involvement in social groups, including the GM Men's Coaches and Fisher Body social groups, as well as her passionate membership in the Oakland County Genealogical Society, showcased her vibrant social spirit and commitment to community. Betty leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving children: Randall, Kevin (Nancy), Joel (Fran), Kara Edwards (John), and Thomas (Karissa). Her grand presence will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Ian, Carly, Nicholas, Kyle, Taylor, Meredith, Madison, Lauren, Conner, Isobel, Courtney, Drake, Camden, Hoyt, Taden, and Gannon. Her great-grandchildren Maren, Eleanor, Sebastien, Archie, Finnan, and Lennon, along with two expected arrivals, will carry forward the light of her spirit.
A service in celebration of Betty's life will be held on June 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at St. David's Episcopal Church, located at 16200 W. 12 Mile Rd, Southfield, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. David's Food Pantryhttps://www.stdavidssf.org/donations or St. Anne's Mead Caregiver Gift Fund, https://stannesmead.org/give-now/ organizations that were close to Betty's heart.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at St. Anne's Mead Southfield and AdvisaCare Hospice for the remarkable care and comfort provided to Betty in her final years. "Kindness can transform someone's dark moment with a blaze of light. You'll never know how much your caring matters."
Betty's brilliance, kindness, and love for life touched all who knew her. She will be remembered for her warm smile, gentle spirit, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of her family and friends. Her life was a story of love, and her legacy was one of light and inspiration.
