A beloved friend to many, a son and brother, 42-year-old Seth Harland of Ferndale quietly passed away on Wednesday, October 4.  Just 9 days shy of his 43rd birthday, Seth’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service on his birthday beginning at 2 pm, Friday, October 13 at the Spaulding & Curtin Funeral Home in Downtown Ferndale.

Predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Cynthia and Michael Hines,  Seth is survived by his father, Terry; brother, Aaron; sister, Lynnea (Jason) Krupsky; niece, Olivia; aunt, Rhonda Edblom; uncle, Garth (Julie) Edblom; and cousins, Kaisa & Sascha Ring and Kial, Christopher & Sarah Edblom. Also surviving are Seth’s many friends, who this week have filled his facebook page with an outpouring of love for a friend who they called “brother” and who would do anything for anyone of them.

Seth spent most of his life taking care of those dear friends, with whom he shared many of his life’s best adventure.  An avid cyclist, he loved to ride his bike on the road, off road – or wherever the ride would go.  He was a regular at the local bike shop, where he often pitched in to help customers or staff.  Besides cycling, he also loved snowboarding and frequently traveled to Colorado to enjoy the slopes and the fresh powder of the Rocky Mountains. He was an avid gardener; enjoyed fishing and made his life’s mission making his friends happy.  If someone needed help, Seth provided it.  He always went out of his way to lend a hand to family and friends.

Seth loved to discover new places and share his finds with his best friends.  Following the service at the funeral home, family and friends are invited to say a final farewell to Seth at his “secret spot.”

Please make memorial contributions in Seth’s name to the American Cancer Society.

MEMORIES

I’m sorry for your loss. Death is an enemy we have all been hurt by. And although you are experiencing sadness right now, the Bible promises that this is only temporary and soon God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more. Revelation 21:4

I didn't know Seth very well but I wanted to pay my respects to his family, friends, and those close to him. I am so deeply sorry you have to deal with this loss. Sincerely, Lisa Florian (Michalski) class of 1993

Seth I remember when Janice was gone, the warm HUGZ, the tears we shed together just trying to make it through. Then your Dad and Mom left us and again together we helped each other make it through. Now your gone and I don't have you to help me make it through. I'll be looking for you for awhile, until it sinks in that you're gone and asking God to take care of you and for me to make it through. XOXO LOVE YOU

I only met Seth a couple of times. He was my son's best man at his wedding. I remember how nervous he was about giving the speech. But it was a wonderful speech. And I do believe he danced the night away. He will be missed by many

Seth was our best friend for 22 years and the reason my wife and I are together. He was always there for us no matter what from helping with injuries to support of my wife's battle with colon cancer. We will love and miss him forever. Our team at Pink Vail this year will be in his memory.

My Family and I would like to express our condolences to the family of Mr. Harland. The scriptures share this comforting message: "All those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out." ( John 5:28,29 )

My condolences to the family. No one is totally prepared for the death of a loved one. May you draw close to God in prayer and he will sustain you during this difficult time.-Psalms 55:22

May you find peace in the fond memories and happy moments you shared with Seth as well as in the contributions he made in this world! I am Mike's aunt and remember Seth as friendly and caring. May God bring you strength at this time!
