In Memory of Kevin B. Curtin 1960 - 2007
Kevin was born September 11, 1960 to Patrick and Carolyn (Spaulding) Curtin in Detroit . He is the great grandson of our founder, Vernor Spaulding, making him the fourth generation of family to operate the funeral home. Kevin attended St. James and Gesu elementary schools and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1979. He became an employee of the funeral home in 1977 and following high school pursued his mortuary academic requirements at Wayne State University and Worsham Mortuary College , Chicago . He was awarded his Michigan Mortuary Science License in 1983 and was admitted a full partner of Spaulding & Curtin in 1987. Kevin served five years with the Michigan Funeral Directors Association and was president in 1998. He is also past president of the Ferndale Rotary Club, where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship and served as president of the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce for three years. However, one of Kevin's greatest achievements in life was earning his pilots license and being able to enjoy the thrill of flying. Kevin was suddenly diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in March 2002 and endured a difficult period of treatment and recovery. Sadly, on September 21, 2007, Kevin's struggle ended. His courage, faith and tenacity, as well as prayers and support of family, friends and community, helped him through the last five and a half years. Kevin is survived by his wife, Patricia (Onderbeke), whom he married in December 1992 at Marygrove Chapel in Detroit ; daughter, Maura; parents Patrick and Carolyn; and sisters, Lynn (Kelly) O'Meara and Kelly Anne (Charlie) Ruda |
