Spaulding & Curtin Funeral Directors, LLC. is a four generation family owned and operated funeral service firm, currently owned and managed by Kevin B. Curtin, the great grandson of our founder, Verner Spaulding.
Mr. Spaulding entered funeral service in 1905 in Buchanan, Michigan, before moving to Rochester in 1911, where he operated an undertaking and furniture establishment until moving to Ferndale in 1927.
There he formed a partnership with Albert Stienbaugh. In February 1938, Merton E. Spaulding partnered with his father Verner. Spaulding and Son Funeral Home began operating in their newly constructed facility on the present site, said to be the first funeral home built as such in Oakland County.
Mr. Stienbaugh and J. Joe Wessels, who was an employee of Spaulding and Stienbaugh, formed a partnership which has evolved into the present firm of Wessels and Wilk of Pleasant Ridge. In 1960, Merton E. Spaulding and Patrick J. Curtin formed the partnership of Spaulding & Curtin Funeral Home.
Funeral customs are in transition as cremation and memorial services increase. We pride ourselves in maintaining the family tradition of providing caring and personalized professionalism to all families, with respect and dignity, in whatever manner they wish to be served.
